13 Poirots and 7 Marples with Teresa Peschel

13 Poirots and 7 Marples with Teresa Peschel In-Person

Agatha Christie saw her writing translated to the silver screen, the stage, the radio, and television during her lifetime, beginning in 1928 with the now-lost The Passing of Mr. Quinn.

For the second adaptation, Die Abenteurer G.m.b.H (1929), its screenwriter Jane Bess created the format for many future Agatha adaptations:  rewrite the plot, change the date and setting, alter the murderer's identity, and in general play last and lose with the source material.

You can understand why Agatha hated most of the adaptations.  One was so bad her family told her not to go see it.

But Teresa Peschel set herself the task of watching 201 adaptations and discovered that faithfulness to the original story doesn't always result in a good product.  There are good Agatha adaptations, bad Agatha adaptations, weird Agatha adaptations, and one so bad no family should see it.

In her program, Teresa will focus on Agatha's most famous detectives: Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.  Both saw more than their fair share of changes that will be illustrated with film clips from their appearances.
